Jerusalem Sunday school

The Jerusalem Sunday School was formed in 1870. The first classes were conducted in a temporary shed in the pulimpally purayidam. In the wake of Centenary in 1970 the Jerusalem Sunday School constructed a Guest house in the Church premises. The Sunday school year commences with dedication ceremony of the teachers in the first week of January. Classes begin at 1.30 pm. Children actively participate in camps, competitions, cultural programmes and Birud exam of the Samajam and win prizes. V. B.S is an important activity of the Sunday school. Special dedication service is conducted in the parish in the month of June for children entering new classes. Teachers’ fellowship is held regularly to plan the activities of the Sunday school. The Sunday school gives educational aid to needy children. Now, there are 62 children and 12 teachers. Teachers regularly attend all the programmes organized by the Sunday school Samajam. His Lordship Zacharias Thirumeni, His Lordship Gregorios Thirumeni and priests of this parish are old students of the Jerusalem Sunday School.

St. Paul’s Sunday school

Long distance to Jerusalem church was a problem for children staying at Chakattuserri bhagam. To look after their spiritual need a Sunday school was started in the house of Mr. Kochupappi panampatteth, in 1923. In 1932 a prayer hall was constructed in the Chakkattuserri purayidam and classes began there. Children from other denominations and a few non–Christians study in this Sunday school. Children actively participate in different programmes and Kalamela and win prizes. In the Birud exams students of this Sunday school win with high merit. Classes begin at 7.00 am. There are 27 students and 5 teachers. Rev. Sibu Pallichira, Sister A.S. Aleyamma Adivakal, Dr. Shiny Varghese Scientist USA are old students of this Sunday school.

Yuvajana Sakhyam

Yuvajana Sakhyam is an active organization in the parish. It has regular meetings on every Sunday after the worship. The Yuvajana Sakhyam organiszes programmes like cottage prayers, house visits, discussion, seminars, cultural events, cleaning work, medical camps Onam, Christmas and Independence Day celebration. Talent Show is conducted on 1st January every year. The Sakhyam publishes Kaiyezhuthu magazine. The Yuvajana Sakhyam had generously raised funds for various programmes and construction activities of the parish. The gate on the western side of the parish was donated by Yuvajana Sakhyam.. Yuvajana Sakhyam plays an important role in grooming the future of many youths in the parish. 2013 is the Golden jubilee year of the Sakhyam. They have various programmes to celebrate the jubilee suitably. Educational help and housing aid, Library renovation, and mission tour are some of the programmes.

St. Thomas centre

St Thomas centre was established in the wake of centenary of the Parish. Main activities are Alcoholic Anonymous (A.A) group meetings on Saturdays, A.A members’ family get together, theruvunadakm, mission work in Andhra Pradesh, career guidance and counseling programmes. The centre organizes seminars on St. Thomas tradition, Christian approach to other faiths, Niranam tradition, celebration of St. Thomas Day on 21st December, meetings and mission tours. Usually 20-25 members actively participate in the A.A. group meetings. The St. Thomas centre supervises evangelistic work in the villages of Veeraghatam in Andhra Pradesh. The centre provide educational and hostel support for poor children there. Parish members support the mission work through donations, mission box collection and by sponsoring children.

Edavaka Mission

Edavaka Mission conducts weekly evening prayer meeting every Tuesday in houses and Bible study on Thursdays in the parish. Main activities are fellowship meetings in the parish and different houses, Hospital and jail visits, prayer meetings on special occasions, mid – year and year end fellowship meetings. Prayer cell is held on every first Thursday of the month from 6 to 7 p m. There are 90 registered members in the Edavaka Mission.

Choir

The Jerusalem Church congregation has been a singing community all through the year. The choir was organized in a systematic manner in the year 1975 under the guidance of Rev. C.V. Abraham. The choir assists the congregation in worship and participates in various church programmes, marriage functions, ecumenical programmes, AIR and TV programmes- Power Vision and Atmeeya Yathra. Our choir is one of the leading choirs in the Diocese. A Few members passed the key Board grade exams of Royal school of music London. Every year 3 to 4 members get selection in the Maramon convention choir. The sound system in the parish has been modernized by the initiative of the choir. The members are grateful to all who pray and support the Choir. It is indeed a pride that many of the old members are active in choirs of various Mar Thoma parishes. The Choir has its regular practice on every Sunday and holidays. At present there are 35 members.

Sevika Sangham

Fellowship meeting and Bible classes are held on every Tuesday in the parish and on Wednesdays at Chakattuseri Bhagam. Every Friday there is fasting prayer in the parish and Chakattuseri Chapel. On second Tuesdays prayer meeting is held at Kurichiyethu bhagam. On first Tuesdays common prayer is held. Sangham members take initiative in cooking in connection with various functions in the parish. The Sevika Sangham actively participate in the meetings and competitions at centre and Diocesan level.

Senior Citizen Fellowship

Senior citizen fellowship was formed in 2002. Every fourth Sunday the members meet in the parish for prayer and fellowship. There are 70 members in the fellowship at present.

Suvishesha Sena

Suvishesha sena is a group of Children and youths who have dedicated themselves for Gospel work. They meet once in three month for prayer and Bible study. There are 20 members in the group.
